After an extremely selective process, the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) in the United States has given AU approval to make a formal application to the Commission for Eligibility. In 2014, WSCUC suspended accreditation of international institutions in order to allow time to review their international activities. WSCUC reopened international accreditation in July 2019 on a selective basis and only three international institutions, including AU, were issued an invitation to apply. Obtaining “Eligibility” status is the first step towards achieving "Candidacy" and "Initial Accreditation" by WSCUC. AU is the sole MENA-region institution on the new list.
Chancellor Karim Seghir has formed a high-level task force to begin the meaningful and impactful process. "We are honored to be among the three universities in the world that have been invited to apply for eligibility with WSCUC," said Dr. Seghir. “Earning QAA global accreditation in April 2020 was a landmark moment for AU and this is the perfect time to leverage that success into another strategic achievement for Ajman University."
