Ajman University has rolled out a brand new mobile clinic to deliver dental care to the doorsteps of underserved populations, especially the elderly and those who are unable to travel due to injury, illness or mobility issues. The clinic will also visit immigrant laborers to provide complimentary checkups and treatments onsite. The sleek dental clinic features wheelchair access and is equipped with the latest tools for state-of-the-art patient care. There are two fully-equipped units on board – both of which meet international regulations – that can accommodate up to 40 patients daily. For the last decade, AU’s College of Dentistry has treated 500 patients a day in the free clinic on campus. The mobile dental clinic is a natural extension of the University’s overarching commitment to community service. Being socially responsible has been part of the collective DNA at AU since the institution was founded in 1988. Students here show great passion for their studies as well as deep compassion toward society. And, there are many opportunities to share what they’ve learned in classrooms with the community at large. Each semester, groups visit places like India, Kenya, Nepal and Zanzibar to provide assistance. Whether volunteering overseas or locally, AU students bring their experiences back to campus for discussion and evaluation.
