Ajman University has been the recipient of two prestigious international accreditations.
In June, the BPharm program in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences was granted International Certification by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in the United States. In August, the Bachelor of Science programs in Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering were accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET – the global accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.
Ajman University is among the first cohort of institutions outside the United States to receive International Certification under the ACPE’s enhanced criteria, which was recently increased from 19 to 26 measures. AU is now one of only two universities in the UAE – and five others in the Arab region – to earn this distinction.
“Our College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences was launched in 1996 as the first college in the UAE to offer a BPharm program for both genders,” said Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, at the handover ceremony in September. “As one of only 11 non-American universities to earn ACPE certification – out of 1,945 pharmacy schools outside the United States – AU joins an elite 0.6% of pharmacy colleges with these credentials.”
By receiving ABET Accreditation, AU’s Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering programs are now included in a premier group of 3,850 programs from 775 colleges and universities in 31 countries to by accredited by the organization. ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision, and safety are of the utmost importance.
“ABET Accreditation demonstrates that graduates of our Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering programs are capable of leading the way in innovation, emerging technologies, and in anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public,” Dr. Seghir said of the landmark accomplishment for AU’s College of Engineering.
With 36,000 alumni working worldwide, AU has been making an impact since being established in 1988 as the first private university in the GCC.
