The College of Pharmacy in Ajman University has organized an important workshop on Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) to test clinical skill performance and competence in skills.
An OSCE is a modern type of examination designed to hone a number of skills, spanning communication, clinical examination, medical procedures prescription, exercise prescription, joint mobilization/manipulation techniques, radiographic positioning, radiographic image evaluation, and interpretation of results.
It is a hands-on, real-world approach to learning that keeps examinees engaged, allows them to understand the key factors that drive the medical decision-making process, and challenges the professional to be innovative and reveals their errors in case-handling and provides an open space for improved decision-making, based on evidence-based practice for real-world responsibilities.
The workshop, delivered by Dr. Aldeya, Ulster University, on Sunday, March 10, comes under an MoU inked by Ajman University and Ulster University in a bid to conduct an OSCE training for faculty and students.
A group of 10 faculty and 12 students participated in the training which covered seven stations of clinical assessment skills.
Some students role played patients with specific needs, some others role played pharmacists attending to patient needs, whereas the faculty played as assessors of pharmacist student interactions.
The workshop was conducted under the umbrella of the Office of International Academic Affairs, headed by Eng. Tazeen Sharif, in the presence of College Dean Prof. Nageeb Hassan, Head of Clinical Sciences Department Dr. Muaed Al Omar, and Coordinator of Office of Experiential Learning Dr. Sanah Hasan.
Later, Dr Aldeyab was presented with a certificate of appreciation in recognition for conducting the workshop, while all participants got certificates of OSCE Training.
