Ajman University (AU) has organized a thrilling convocation ceremony for its new students to start their first academic year as of Sunday, September 01, 2019.
The function, held at the Sheikh Zayed Centre for Conferences & Exhibitions, saw the presence of AU cabinet, faculty and staff members, along with lots of old and new students and parents.
In his inaugural speech, Dr. Karim Seghir, Ajman University Chancellor, congratulated the new students on joining the oldest private institution of higher education in the GCC that now ranks among the top 800 worldwide.
“This year, QS ranked AU 4th in the world for international faculty and 6th in the world for international students,” he said. “The new position puts AU in the top 2.8% of universities worldwide, and top 1.7% of institutions in the Arab world.”
Dr Seghir urged all new students to find their mission in the world and make it a better place. “You have to be the change you want to see in the world. You have to be the captain of your own ship.”
“By the time you graduate from AU, we want you to be able to make informed decisions and to act responsibly on your convictions.”
The hallmark of a powerful education is making a genuine and impactful contribution on your communities with your intellectual and emotional skills, he underlined, thanking all AU faculty and staff members for their relentless effort “to make AU a safe, inviting, challenging, stimulating and nurturing place to work, teach and learn.”
The Deanship of Student Services (DSS), as is the case every year, is to run week-long activities for new students under the theme ‘How to excel in university’. A tour and open discussions are meanwhile organized to enlighten students about AU facilities.
DSS also runs a mass lunch for new students who are invited to a city tour to explore the famous sites of the emirate of Ajman, while a variety of awareness workshops on excellence in university are held as well.
Registration for the new academic year 2019/2020 is still open, however, the drop-add deadline has been set on Thursday, September 05, 2019.
