And once again Ajman University (AU) makes it happen; but this time at the hand of a renowned scholar of its faculty members.
Prof. Shaher Momani, Dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences, AU, has received the Shoman Award for Mathematical Modeling jointly with Dr. Omar Knio, Professor of Applied Mathematics and Computational Science at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia.
In his speech on behalf of the winners, at the awards ceremony held under the auspices of the Foundation Chairman Mr. Sobeih Al-Masri and his Deputy Dr. Amin Mahmoud, Prof. Momani highlighted some key concerns of researchers and scientists.
“The most important of these are the promotion of scientific research in Arab universities and the establishment of an international center for documenting and publishing researches in Arabic.”
Adopting appropriate international classifications for universities, while vying in material, human potentials, and strategic plans are the need of the time, he added. “This will definitely help Arab universities rank higher worldwide.”
The Award, the first of its kind to be dedicated for scientific research, has been dedicated to honoring Arab researchers since 1982.
The award, aimed to support and highlight scientific research throughout the Arab world, recognizes distinguished scientific outcome of scientific and social value.
While the award saw a stiff competition from 382 candidates, 359 made it and 23 were excluded for non-compliance with set conditions. Finally, 15 scholars were named winners in six fields; with each divided into two themes.
These six fields span Medical and Health Sciences; Engineering Sciences; Basic Sciences; Literature and Humanitarian, Social and Educational Sciences; Economics and Administration Sciences, and Agriculture and Technology.
The 15 winners included five researchers from Egypt, three from Palestine, two from Lebanon, one from Jordan, one from Tunisia, one from Oman, one from Iraq, and one from Morocco.
Prof. Momani was presented with a certificate bearing the name of Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers, as well as the winner’s name and field of interest.
A financial prize of USD 20,000 and a plaque, bearing the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers’ name and logo were also presented to Prof. Momani.
The Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation announced the names of the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers’ winners in a special ceremony held in Amman, Jordan, on October 26, 2019.
Ajman University Chancellor Dr. Karim Seghir congratulated Prof Momani on winning the prestigious award.
