On February 13, 2025, Ajman University successfully hosted an Interprofessional Education (IPE) event themed "Learning Together for Working Together in a Patient-Centered Healthcare System." The event convened students, faculty, and professionals from diverse healthcare disciplines to cultivate collaborative skills and enhance patient-centered care practices.
During the three-hour session, 35 interprofessional groups, each comprised of two students from Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Dentistry, and guided by a faculty instructor, collaboratively assessed a complex case study: "Diabetes with Polytrauma." The first hour was dedicated to facilitator training, conducted by a cross-disciplinary task force, followed by two hours of intensive IPE case discussions. Students explored the case from their respective professional perspectives and collectively developed comprehensive care plans.
The event was meticulously planned by an IPE task force, chaired by Professor Abeer AlGhananeem, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. To ensure continuous improvement, both quantitative and qualitative feedback were collected from student participants and instructors.
Participant feedback underscored the event's success. "The integration of diverse skills and knowledge from different professionals to address patient needs was truly impressive," one student shared. Another noted, "The opportunity to learn from and alongside peers from other disciplines was invaluable."
Ajman University's commitment to interprofessional education is unwavering and the university strives to equip future healthcare professionals with the collaborative competencies necessary for optimal patient care. The diverse health programs and supportive learning environment make Ajman University a leading institution for this vital educational approach, ultimately contributing to improved patient outcomes and enhanced healthcare delivery.
