The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences organized a guest speaker event titled Precision in Practice: The Role of Quality Assurance and Control in Hospital Pharmacy
The event which was introduced by Dr. Akram Ashames and presented by Ms. Alaa Taalab, an AU alumna, MSc student and a hospital Pharmacist at the Saudi German Hospital at Ajman. Ms. Alaa discussed the various aspects and principles of Quality assurance in a Hospital Pharmacy setting. She highlighted the importance of Quality in health care and in pharmacy services provided for patients. The speaker discussed the importance of having policies and procedures in Hospital Pharmacy and gave examples. In addition, the speaker talked about how data is collected in a Hospital Pharmacy Setting where it is analyzed and outcomes are measured to improve the quality of the pharmacy services. The speaker highlighted how technology is utilized to extract data and monitor medication errors. Moreover, the speaker discussed the leadership role and how a pharmacy manager should lead with example when it comes to providing quality pharmacy practice. Finally, the speaker highlighted career opportunities in health care and pharmacy quality and some educational pathways for students in the field of Quality in health care.
The event was attended by Faculty and students from all levels of the college.
