On the 19th of May 2023, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences organized a seminar titled “soft skills required for Pharmacists” in collaboration with Makkah Group of Pharmacies, a leading chain pharmacy group in Ajman. The participants were graduating final year B.Pharm students who recently completed their advanced experiential learning courses. The main goal of the seminar was to impart necessary skills to the graduating students by the field experts in order to improve the employability opportunities for the graduates. The seminar had two sessions: experience sharing by Dr. Muhammad Mushfiq Ali Khan, the Chairman of the Makkah Group of Pharmacies, and a scientific session delivered by Mr. Jawaid Akthar, the Group Business Development Manager of the Makkah group, and Dr. Wasiq Ali Khan, the Managing Director of Makkah group. During the scientific session, Mr. Jawaid highlighted the importance of soft skills in pharmacy practice. Emphasis was laid upon knowing the customers as well as the communication process involved in selling medicinal products. He also explained in detail with examples of communication approaches, elements of presentation, overcoming objections, probing, interpreting objections, and closing the sale. The seminar gave students an opportunity to understand the contemporary skills required for future pharmacists to excel in their pharmacy profession. The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences constantly engages with employers and provides opportunities for students to interact with the employers and prepare themselves for the job market.
