On 17th May 2021, the Department of Clinical Sciences conducted a Preceptor orientation program for the practicing community pharmacists in UAE. The Head of the Clinical Sciences department, the Experiential Learning coordinator and other members of the training team were the resource persons.
The objective of the program was to provide an overview on the upcoming Introductory Practice Experience (early clinical exposure) training for Pharmacy students, to provide the course learning objectives to be achieved by the students at the end of the training, to explain the assessment process for the training and to obtain participant feedback and suggestions to improve the experiential learning.
A total of 16 Community pharmacists attended the event and they were emphasized on the importance of preceptors in delivering high quality experiential learning for the students. The specific topics covered were learning objectives, tasks to be performed by the students, daily log templates, onsite preceptor feedback to students, attendance, assessment etc. The COVID safety at the time of student training were also discussed with the onsite preceptors. Two sessions of the orientation (one each in the morning and evening) were conducted to facilitate maximum participation of the community pharmacists.
