In recognition of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ajman University Women Empowerment Council (AUWEC) launched the ‘Pink October’ campaign to raise awareness and support for the global fight against breast cancer. The month-long campaign featured breast cancer screening camps, informative Q&A sessions, inspiring talks with survivors, and other activities designed to deepen community understanding and involvement.
The campaign concluded on October 31 with an event titled “Goodbye October, Hello Hope.” Dr. Nahla Qasimi, Dean of Student Services and Chairperson of AUWEC, expressed gratitude to everyone involved, highlighting the campaign’s success in touching countless lives. “Through this initiative, AUWEC aimed to create a legacy of empathy and courage for those impacted by breast cancer,” Dr. Nahla said, adding that the campaign’s achievements were strengthened by the active participation of student volunteers.
Ariana Ali Saifi, a final-year student from AU College of Medicine, was one of the many students who contributed to the campaign. She and her team visited Sharjah International School, delivering impactful presentations on breast cancer awareness to students and teachers. “It was personally fulfilling to be involved and to spread this vital message,” Ariana shared. “Awareness is critical in fighting breast cancer.”
Umaima Advan, a second-year student at the AU College of Medicine, was excited to help coordinate the campaign’s diverse discussions, events, and medical exams. “It was a comprehensive and well-rounded effort aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer,” she noted.
As part of the campaign's inspiring lineup, Dr. Azmat Riaz, Assistant Professor at Ajman University College of Medicine, shared her own journey as a breast cancer survivor. Her powerful story resonated deeply with the audience and served as a moving testament to resilience. Dr. Dalia Bedewy, Manager of the Counseling Unit, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Riaz for her openness, noting how her story inspired many and underscored the strength and resolve of those facing breast cancer.
The Tree of Hope: A Symbol of Resilience and Unity
At the heart of the “Goodbye October, Hello Hope” event, the Tree of Hope served as a profound symbol of courage, unity, and collective optimism. This pink tree, adorned with heartfelt messages from attendees, transformed simple words into expressions of solidarity and hope. Each message—written by survivors, supporters, and advocates—reflected a shared commitment to the fight against breast cancer and a vision for a future free from its impact. As participants added their messages, the Tree of Hope blossomed, representing not only the courage of those who have faced breast cancer but also the enduring support of those who stand beside them.
Ajman University’s ‘Pink October’ campaign serves as a reminder that while October may end, the hope and resilience it inspires continue to grow, uniting the community in the promise of a healthier tomorrow.
