AU students have been taking home the maximum awards at IEEE student day and this year at the 10th edition of the competition history was not going to change. For the 10th consecutive year AU got the maximum number of prizes at the IEEE UAE Student Day. AU got 5 awards in various categories. First and second prizes in Industrial Design Project, first prize in Community Service Project, 2nd prize in Engineering Design Project and 2nd prize in Software Engineering Project.
Students and their supervisors have worked relentlessly to keep abreast of the innovative trends in technology that will ease the way forward for the generations whilst assisting our society and its members.
The project ‘Sign Language Awareness’ participated in the community service category and won the 1st position, team name. This project is about spreading the awareness and raising the importance of sign language and encouraging the people from different backgrounds to learn it. Basically it is a way to ease the inclusiveness of special people into our society. Students Reem Sami, Dalia Mohammed, Ansam Mohammed, Sara Hesham together formed the team “We Hear You” to execute this noble project.
“Free Falling Object” project participated in the engineering design project and won the 2nd position, it’s about designing an object without any electrical interfering and it will be thrown from a 10 meter height and should stay in the air for the longest time. This was the brainchild of students Bassant Ibrahim, Anna Mahmoud and Hadil Adel.
Students Fatima Abdullah, Suzan Sarraj and Zena Zeyad designed the “Smart Autonomous Vehicle” an obstacle avoidance car which can walk automatically and avoid walls and obstacles. The team was participating in Industrial Design Project Category, and they won the 2nd place with new record.
Another exemplary project “Smart Animal Farming Management Systems” The main objective of SAM is to help farmers increase the farming operation efficiency by collecting effective data from their livestock (e.g., horse, camel, cow, cattle, eagle, lamb etc.). Furthermore, efficient farming operations can be in other forms of effective farming operations such as efficient use of environmental resources (e.g., water, organic treatments, animal feeds etc.) or also reducing of manual human activities.
Another intelligent “Smart Autonomous Vehicle” was successfully designed by students Subae Haitham and Mohammed Alkhateeb a car with obstacle avoidance system. This car could run autonomously avoiding walls and obstacles. The team participated in IEEE competition, Industrial Design Project Category, and they won the 1st prize.
