“Women Right in UAE Personal Status Law” Lecture at AU

Under the directives of  His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE, May Allah protect him, the year 2017 is declared as the Years of Giving. The Emirates of Ajman is holding various events and activities aimed at promoting the goodness of Year of Giving across all public and private sectors. Aligned with this the College of Law at Ajman University organized an insightful lecture entitled “Women’s Right in the UAE personal status law” at Umm Al Momineen Association in Ajman.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Qais Abdul Wahab Issa, faculty member at the College of Law and attended by numerous members of the community and law fraternity. Dr. Qais addressed in his lecture, the rights of women in the personal status of the UAE law, and highlighted many useful topics such as: women right to choose a spouse, the conditions of the marriage contract, and the right to efficiency, controls and conditions of divorce; along with the right of women to seek judicial separation.

The lecture also addressed the mother's right to child custody, in preference to the fathers’ right, taking into account the interests of the child. The lecture was well received by the audience and the event ended on discussion and question answer session.
