Ajman University Students Visit Ajman Port and Customs

Students studying at the College of Law at Ajman University of Science and Technology visited the Ajman Ports and Customs. They were accompanied by their supervisor Dr. Susan Hassan and received a warm welcome by His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Ports and Customs in the Emirates of Ajman and His Excellency Ali Tamimi, Director Ajman Customs.

The students toured the facilities and were briefed about the strategic plans and future goals. The objectives of increasing movement through the port of Ajman in order to increase the monetary revenue for the Emirates were also highlighted. His Excellency outlined the import and export procedures that are in accordance with the laws and regulations of the UAE Navy and its stringent standards. Along with the importance of increasing the rapport between the shipper and importer wherein the terms of reference are international agreements adhered to by both parties concerned.

As for the strategic plan the students learnt about the new port area of Al Zoura to be launched in early 2016 which will be completed in 2017, it will be similar to the port of Jebel Ali, Dubai and will accommodate more number of ships.

They also learnt about the laws governing the customs and duties levied on certain goods and the exception of unified customs law for Gulf Cooperation Council member countries. During their tour they experienced firsthand the handling of ships, cranes and harbor operations.

The student’s delegation thanked the ports and customs authority for their hospitality and the knowledge imparted.
