Ajman Ruler Honors AUST Silver Jubilee Class of Graduates

His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, UAE Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Ajman and Chairman of Ajman University of Science and Technology’s Board of Trustees, inaugurated on Tuesday, May 28th the 2013 Commencement of AUST, which this year coincides with the 25th anniversary of the University.

In his opening speech, H.H. Al Nuaimi said that “developed countries place education at the top of their priorities, being aware that the advancement of societies is contingent upon the progress they achieve in the arena of education”. He commended the excellent level attained by the UAE’s higher education sector, thanks to the unceasing support of the wise leadership.

He said that Ajman University of Science and Technology, through its divers educational offerings, is significantly contributing to the comprehensive development and progress of this country, wishing AUST even more success and prosperity in its silver jubilee anniversary.

Ajman Ruler congratulated the graduating class of 2013, stating that their graduation is just the beginning of a long pathway to a career life full of experiences through the practical application knowledge and skills they gained while in the university classrooms. “I warmly congratulate my sons and daughters who are graduating today and wish them every success in their professional careers. I also congratulate Ajman University on its silver jubilee, which crowns 25 years of achievement.”

Attendance

The graduation ceremony was attended by H.H. Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Ajman Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council; Sheikh Ahmad Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Ajman Ruler Representative for Financial and Administrative Affairs; Sheikh Abudlaziz Bin humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Culture and Media Department; Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department; and Sheikh Dr. Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Head of Ajman Emiri Court.

Also present were H.E. Humaid Al Qatami, Minister of Education; H.E. Abdurrahman Al Owais, Minister of Health; H.E. Saeed Al Raqbani, Special Advisor to His Highness Ruler of Fujairah; Eng. Khaled Salman, Member of AUST Board of Trustees, as well as a number of sheikhs, ambassadors, cultural attachés and senior officials.

AUST Address

Osama Salman, AUST Vice President, delivered the University’s address to the commencement of 2013 class, in which he acclaimed the unstinting support of His Highness Sheikh Humaid Al Nuaimi and his generous patronage of the University over its twenty-five-year journey which produced 27,000 graduates and a wide array of academic programs today totaling 44 bachelors and masters. 

Mr. Salman started by extending earnest gratitude and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, “whose sound leadership has paved the way for the unprecedented development and progress of our beloved country.” He went on to express AUST’s sincere thanks to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, for his sound directives, support and guidance.

“It is because of such firm support by our wise leadership that Ajman University of Science and Technology has now become a leading landmark within the nation’s education arena, where the five domains of tutoring, research, training, expertise and practice correlate to make the University’s unique education philosophy. It is of course a great honor and a laudable achievement for every aspiring student to earn a degree from Ajman University of Science and Technology, thanks to its established academic reputation among other higher education institutions in the UAE and the region alike,” said the Vice President.

Addressing the commemorated graduates, He explained that in the current economic climate overshadowed by the lingering global recession, we cannot underestimate the seriousness of the challenges facing fresh graduates; noting that “the UAE, thanks to the foresight of its wise leadership, continues to enjoy a rapidly growing economy and provides a fertile multicultural work environment which stimulates creativity and development.”

AUST Vice President stated that this year’s Commencement is very special as it coincides with the University’s silver jubilee. He then extended his heartfelt congratulations to the graduates and thanked them for choosing Ajman University of Science of Technology. This graduation ceremony, he said, is also to celebrate the glorious achievements of our new class of graduates and, at the same time, to salute the efforts of all of those who made this joyous event an occasion worthy of celebration.

Thamer Scholarship Fund

Osama Salman announced that Ajman University is launching Thamer Fund, dedicated to the memory of late Thamer Saeed Salman, to support a number of disadvantaged AUST students, whose financial situations prevented them from pursuing their studies. He called upon everyone who cares about the future of these needy students to support this new fund.

At the end of his address, he said: “As we celebrate these precious moments, it is only fitting to pay tribute to our brother the late Thamer Saeed Salman, who departed this year leaving us good memories and remarkable achievements. He devoted every effort to serve his students, his university and his nation. May Allah bless him and rest his soul in peace.

 Keynote Speaker Address

Eng. Mohamed Othman Bloola, alumnus of AUST’s College of Engineering and current teaching assistant in the Department of Biomedical Engineering who was selected among the World's 500 most influential Arabs in 2013 in the “scientist inventor” category for the second consecutive year, was chosen as keynote speaker for this commencement.  

Eng. Baloola expressed his thanks and appreciation to AUST to whom he attributed the success attained by the graduates of this university while in school and after graduation. He particularly mentioned the recent achievements of the College of Engineering when its students won six out of fifteen awards during the eighth edition of the UAE’s IEEE competitions.

After presenting his success story as a former graduate of Ajman University, Baloola praised the achievements of the College of Information Technology, whom four of its outstanding students qualified to the finals of local Imagine Cup competition organized by Microsoft and sponsored by Emirates Group. He also applauded the College of Law’s wining the first prize of Dubai Customs Award for Intellectual Property Rights, besides the Engineering Ethics Award acquired by AUST Engineering students.

In conclusion, Baloola urged his fellow students and graduates to continue on the same hard work and perseverance, underscoring that the only guarantee for them to achieve excellence and innovation is by keeping abreast of new developments and breakthroughs in different fields of science and knowledge. 

Graduate Address

The graduate address was delivered by Student Mohammed Hussain Rahimi, who acclaimed the achievements made by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, in commanding and supporting the remarkable development of education in the Emirates.

He also conveyed warm salutations to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, for his unlimited support to the march of knowledge in the country.

“Our warmest greetings and gratitude also go to His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, for his unwavering support to the University and its students and for honoring us with his presence here for the commemoration of AUST Class of Silver Jubilee,” he added.

The Commencement speaker went on to say: “As we accept our graduation degrees, we have to look back with consideration and appreciation to this great opportunity which brought us here and allowed us to fulfill our dream. Today we will be returning home with our degrees, full of aspirations and dreams, sharing a system of values that is the foundation of the UAE society.”

Rahimi also extended much thanks and appreciation to the teachers and parents of the graduating class, wishing the graduates a successful professional life.  

 Honoring of Commencement Patron

 Following the distribution of degrees  to the graduates and honoring top achievers among them,  His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, received a memorial shield from the University, presented to him by H.H. Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman.

Women Commencement

On the next day, Wednesday, May 29 at the same venue, another graduation ceremony was held to celebrate 812 AUST women graduates for the academic year 2012-2013. The ceremony was organized under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Zayed bin Saqr Al Nahyan, consort of His Highness the Ruler of Ajman.
