The UAE researcher, Abdullah Al Khumairi, obtained a master’s degree in private law from the College of Law of Ajman University of Science and Technology with distinction. The thesis which granted him this prestigious title was themed International Commitment to Marine Environmental Protection – Applied Study on United Arab Emirates.
The master’s thesis was presented and defended before a jury headed by Professor Zein Elabidin Rizk, Dean of AUST’s Institute of Environment, Water and Energy; and composed of Dr. Mohammed Al Qasimi and Dr. Noman Atallah Al Hayti, Al Khumairi’s research supervisor.
Al Khumairi approached the topic of his degree thesis using various research methodologies, such as the historical method through which he reviewed the evolution of human interest in global environment as a whole and marine environment in particular; and the analytical method by which he outlined the overall universal conventions and international case-law which one way or another addressed the preservation of marine environment.
The master’s thesis concluded some essential recommendations that fall into the conservation of natural environment from the dangers of pollution both in the UAE and worldwide. The most prominent of these recommendations are: to force industrialized countries to utilize clean technology in their industries so as to reduce hazardous waste to minimum levels, and to emphasize the humans right to live in a healthy environment free of all types of pollution, as well as to raise the public’s environmental awareness in a more concerted manner.
