AUST Students Organize “Support Pink” Breast Cancer Prevention Campaign

Female student volunteers from the College of Business Administration in Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) recently organized a Breast Cancer Prevention Awareness Campaign with the motto “Support Pink”. The one-day event, intended to educate women students and the general public on the prevention of breast cancer, was held at AUST Ajman Campus’s Sheikh Zayed Centre for Conference and Exhibitions under the auspices of the University’s Community Service Department and in cooperation with Mushairif Healthcare Centre in Ajman.

The campaign program comprised a seminar in which invited health experts explained the major causes and symptoms of breast cancer, and provided participants with valuable medical advice on how to prevent and protect against the ailment. The experts also introduced some of the latest technologies used in breast cancer screening.

Dr. Lujeen Metaab , Family Medicine Specialist at Mushairif Healthcare Centre, presented practical demonstrations of breast self-examination, an initial screening procedure that women should learn to perform regularly to help detect any cancerous breast abnormalities at an early stage. Besides, her lecture highlighted the importance of regular clinical breast exams conducted by health professionals along with mammogram and sonogram tests to reduce breast cancer incidence.

Following the seminar, interested participants were offered free breast check-ups at the hands of specialized physicians.
