Ajman University Holds “Karasi” Students Textile Art Exhibition

Under the patronage of Ajman University of Science and Technology, the students of Interior Design Department of the AUST College of Engineering are organizing a textile art exhibition entitled “Karasi” on December 20 through 24 at the Dubai Mall, Grand Atrium.

The exhibition’s opening ceremony which took place on Thursday evening witnessed an encouraging turnout of people from all walks of life amongst them were art fans, students and professionals. Dr. Ahmed Ankit, Assistant to AUST President for External Relations and Cultural affairs did the honors of opening the exhibition in the presence of Dr. Fahar Hayati, Dean of the Engineering College, and other deans, heads of departments and faculty members.

The event is a true reflection of AUST students’ articulate love for art and environment. “Most of the products used are sustainable and environment friendly,” said Dr. Zubaida Al Shawaf, faculty member at the Interior Design Department. Her sheer artistic passion as a teacher was evident by her enthusiasm for the event and the hard work she and her team had put into bringing the students creative toil to this grand platform.

The five-day textile art exhibition is showcasing high-end chairs designed by AUST students; each chair is in itself a story of inspiration, creativity and personality weaved with sustainable products. The diversity of culture and imagination, represented by the student designers, was clearly manifested in each and every piece of art on display.

Dr. Fahar Hayati explained the multifold purpose of such events, saying: “this exhibition will improve the communication skills of students as they engage with the actual business world, will hand on experience of the various factors and elements that constitute the completion of a project, will boost students confidence, and will promote the university’s image as a fertile environment for innovation.”

The dean and teaching staff of the AUST Engineering College watched with sheer pride as their students proudly show their artwork to the visitors and professionals in the field. To lend moral support to the exhibiting students, a host of the College’s former alumni also turned up to the event.

Ms. Israa Mahmood, a AUST internal design graduate who now owns her own business, pointed out that “making the most of the curriculum and faculty expertise is the most important factor in our success. The faculty have been like a family to us all.”

Visitors are invited to experience the unique blend of contemporary and classical textile art at “Karasi” exhibition till 24th of December at the Dubai Mall’s Grand Atrium.
