The College of Medicine would like to Congratulate its students on reaching this important milestone - The White Coat Ceremony which marks the dawn and the official inauguration of their career as medical professionals.
The White Coat Ceremony is a tradition at AUCoM where the event marks the beginning of each medical student's career. Our ceremony creates a psychological, intellectual, and ethical contract for the profession and promotes empathy in the practice of medicine from the very start of medical training. Students are “cloaked” in their first white coat during the ceremony by the Dean of the College and department heads. Together students take the hippocratic oath for the first time, emphasizing the primacy of the doctor-patient relationship and the importance of compassion in medicine.
The White Coat Ceremony is a right of passage. This rite of passage is symbolic and a constant reminder of our professional duties to our patients and communities. Your white coat is a constant reminder, as prescribed by Hippocrates, to lead honorable and righteous lives.
