Ajman University’s MBBS Program Recognized by the General Medical Council of UK

In yet another remarkable achievement reflective of Ajman University’s growing academic excellence and global reputation, the MBBS program offered by Ajman University’s College of Medicine has been officially recognized as a Primary Medical Qualification (PMQ) by the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK. This recognition allows graduates of the MBBS program at Ajman University to be eligible to apply for the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB), which is an exam required for doctors who trained outside the UK and wish to practice there.

Moreover, Ajman University MBBS graduates can now register with the GMC, which is essential for practicing medicine in the UK. Notably, Ajman University graduated its first batch of MBBS graduates this year.

Commenting on the development, Chancellor Dr. Karim Seghir, said, “This recognition for our MBBS program by the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK is a milestone achievement for a young institution such as Ajman University’s College of Medicine. We graduated the first batch of Ajman University MBBS graduates in 2024, so achieving this milestone this year is remarkable for its timeliness. It signifies that our MBBS program meets the rigorous standards set by the GMC, ensuring that our graduates are competent and well-prepared to practice medicine in the UK. Additionally, this status enhances the global reputation of Ajman University, making it an attractive option for prospective students who aim for an international medical career.”

This recognition positions Ajman University favourably among other medical schools in the region, providing its graduates with a competitive edge in pursuing careers in the UK. It also reflects the University's commitment to aligning its curriculum and training with global best practices, which can be a differentiating factor for students seeking internationally recognized qualifications.
