Ajman University College of Medicine Celebrates Global Simulation Week

Ajman University's College of Medicine, the Healthcare Simulation and Clinical Competence Centre (HSCCC) was thrilled to participate in Healthcare Simulation Week 2024, a global event celebrated annually by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). This year's theme, "Launchpad to Legacy: What's Your Next?", provided an ideal platform for students to showcase their skills and collaborate with peers across various healthcare disciplines.

The simulation team organized various unique competitions that simulate real-life scenarios faced by professionals in these fields, providing students the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in realistic environments. Students from diverse disciplines such as nursing, pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, and medicine, participated in these activities.

By working in interdisciplinary teams, participants gained valuable hands-on experience that enhances their skills in line with the latest health protocols and procedures. Additionally, these events support ongoing training programs focused on patient-centered care by creating a safe and integrated simulation environment, ensuring a unique training experience for students in delivering high-quality healthcare.

The events included a variety of simulation games and activities, such as:

Code Blue Blitz: A CPR challenge featuring students from the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. The winning team, "Heart Saviours," consisted of nursing students Reem Saad Mohammed and Shahd Said Abdel Monem.

Moulage Madness: This event featured competition among students from the colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, and Nursing, who used makeup, prosthetics, and wax to create realistic experiences. The team "Trauma Technicians," made up of engineering students Farah Adnan and Lana Issam from the Biomedical Engineering program, excelled with their creative and professional simulation.

MedBay 2100 Escape Room: This exciting experience challenged students to save a patient’s life and escape from a clinical simulation room within a limited timeframe, utilizing their clinical knowledge and problem-solving skills. The winning team, "Medical Mavericks," included Sintya Asakrieh, Mohamed Tarek, and Habibollah Hamidreza from the College of Medicine, along with Gheed Alnuaimi from the College of Engineering and Information Technology (Biomedical Engineering program).

LapSim Champs: This competition was specifically for the College of Medicine students, where Team 1 won due to their outstanding performance, consisting of members Mustafaraza Suria, Inam Ullah Akhtar, Abdulhameed Imad, and Abeer Rasheed.

Additionally, an innovative Biomedical Engineering Project was organized to enhance students' skills in this vital field. The winning project focused on the “Design of a Tuberculosis X-ray Screening Software using Machine Learning: A Software Prototype for iPad or Laptop.” Team members Banan Dhafer, Rawan Ahmed, and Sedra Zulaikha delivered an innovative solution that contributes to improving disease diagnosis.

The Global Simulation Week serves as a launching platform for students, inspiring them to build a promising future in healthcare. By integrating various disciplines, students gain diverse experiences that enhance their practical and theoretical skills. These activities reflect Ajman University College of Medicine's commitment to improving the quality of medical education and providing innovative learning experiences. The college aims to utilize advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality, contributing to the development of students' skills and improving their readiness for the healthcare field.
