Ajman University and Al Zorah Development Private Company team up for Mangrove Ecosystem Restoration Event

The Office of Sustainability at Ajman University, in collaboration with Al Zorah Development Private Company, hosted a Mangrove Ecosystem Restoration event as part of the Greening Communities initiative activities. The event tackled two crucial environmental issues: protecting biodiversity and raising awareness about climate change.

The awareness session delivered by Stephen Payne the Golf Operations Manager and Charlyn Alunday the Membership and Marketing Executive from Al Zorah Golf Club underscored the crucial role of mangrove trees in the natural ecosystem. It highlighted their capacity to absorb carbon dioxide and generate oxygen, thus improving air quality and aiding in climate change mitigation. Additionally, the awareness session discussed mangroves' significance in protecting coastal areas against natural disasters, supporting biodiversity, enhancing water quality and serving as efficient blue carbon ecosystems for carbon absorption and storage.

During the event, a clean-up campaign aimed to raise awareness about marine environment cleanliness, collect waste that harms marine life and ecosystems, and preserve marine habitats for future generations. The campaign involved around 80 volunteers from the AU Community and school students from Al Aqsa Private School, Ajman and National Charity School, Ajman.

The Office of Sustainability collaborates with relevant entities to promote environmental awareness and sustainability. Through knowledge exchange and innovative initiatives, it addresses climate change impacts by organizing workshops, seminars, and campaigns to encourage active participation in environmental preservation for future generations.
