Sustainability Rooted in Diversity is the Message from Ajman University’s Global Day 2023

To celebrate the amazing spirit of diversity and various global cultures represented on its campus, Ajman University held its annual Global Day on February 27, 2023. The colorful event that witnessed participation of AU students from over 30 countries, was organized by the Office of Student Life under the Deanship of Student Services, with the theme ‘Sustainability Rooted in Diversity.’

The festival was inaugurated by Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, in the presence of senior management of the University including the Cabinet Members; the Dean of Student Services, Dr. Nahla Al Qassimi; and the Director of Student Life, Dr. Mohamed Helal.

The opening was attended by Deans of the nine faculties, numerous members of the academic and administrative staff, and hundreds of AU students and guests.

AU Global Day is one of the largest cultural events at AU dedicated to showcasing diverse cultures, promoting better understanding of cultural diversity, and fostering closer ties between students from over 70 different nationalities.

Students from over 30 countries participated in the AU Global Day 2023, hosting their respective pavilions embellished with decorative items, expressive works of art, and heritage collectibles that express the uniqueness of their countries and cultures. They also dressed up in their ethnic garments and served traditional foods from their countries. The countries represented were the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Yemen, Turkey, Sudan, Libya, Morocco, Lebanon, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Japan, Korea, Algeria, Tunisia, France, Sri Lanka, USA, Philippines, Somalia, Nigeria and Canada.

In addition, a special corner representing small projects and another one representing the Emirates Red Crescent were hosted at the Global Day.

The theater performances opened with a fashion show depicting traditional costumes of the participating countries, which was followed by more than 18 artistic on-stage performances including dancing, singing, music and acting, which won the admiration of the audience.

Dr. Karim Seghir, during his address to the audience at the event expressed his great admiration for the well-organized event that he said not only celebrated diversity on the AU campus, but also made the day special for all the participating students.

Dr. Nahla Al Qassimi, expressed her satisfaction that the unique event has helped students enhance their intercultural skills, creativity, management and organizational skills while celebrating the most beautiful aspects of their respective cultures and countries.
