Ajman University Partners with Leader Healthcare Group in AU’s Healthcare Simulation Week

The College of Medicine’s Healthcare Simulation and Clinical Competence Centre (HSCCC) at Ajman University celebrated Healthcare Simulation Week 2023 under the theme “Be a Champion of Your Success Story!” in collaboration with Leader Health Care group. Healthcare Simulation Week is an annual observance hosted by Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). This global event is dedicated to celebrating clinical simulation professionals worldwide who use simulation to improve the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare delivery.

The event featured the following exciting simulation games, activities, and competitions between students:

Simulation Escape Room Competition - Time is running out: Under strict time constraints and relying only on their clinical knowledge, problem-solving skills and teamwork, students had to save a patient’s life and exit the simulated clinical escape room before it was too late.

Surgical Skills Challenge - LapSim Champs: This competition provided participants with an opportunity to test and hone their surgical skills while interacting with the laparoscopy simulator.

Virtual Patient Simulation Contest - Doctor Help Me:  Students had the opportunity to experience and improve their patient management skills through interactive simulation scenarios, allowing them to engage with realistic virtual patient cases.

Moulage Madness: Students competed against each other to simulate the most realistic injuries, burns, and wounds using makeup, wax, simulated blood and silicon prosthetics to add immersive realism to various trauma simulations.

" Simulation-based medical education is of great significance as it provides a safe and controlled learning environment for students. It allows them to practice a wide range of clinical skills, fosters teamwork and communication, and reinforces critical thinking and time management. Mistakes made in simulations serve as valuable learning experiences, and standardized assessment methods help track competence. Moreover, it promotes research and innovation in healthcare education, supports continuous learning, and addresses ethical dilemmas. Ultimately, it enhances patient safety by ensuring well-prepared healthcare providers who can confidently and competently care for patients.” said Dr. Solomon, Dean of the College of Medicine.

"The Medical Simulation Week served as a valuable opportunity to enhance and develop training programs for students. It allowed professionals in the medical field to experience real patient care scenarios without being exposed to real risks. This provided them with the opportunity to improve their skills and increase their confidence in decision-making, which contributes to improving the quality of healthcare provided to patients, enhancing their abilities to carry on medical procedures efficiently.", said Meshal Gulfaraz, Student in the third year at the College of Medicine.

These activities reflect Ajman University's commitment in developing and enhancing students' skills in the field of healthcare using modern teaching and learning instructional designs and technologies. Equipped with state-of-the-art clinical simulation facilities and equipment, the Healthcare and Clinical Competence Centre at Ajman University enables medical students to engage with learning experiences that represent the challenges they may encounter in regular healthcare settings. This significantly contributes to the effective development of their practical and clinical skills, empowering them in becoming competent healthcare professionals in the future.
