AU students recognized for brilliant housing ideas

Ajman University students have been acknowledged for their exceptional architectural ideas of affordable houses that best serve current and future needs of young people in the UAE.

Students at the College of Architecture, Art and Design, Ajman University, have stolen the show at the "Boosting Community Partnership" race that witnessed a stiff competition from students of several universities nationwide.

Nahel Darwish and Abdulrahim Al-Renawi, AU students, pushed back all contestants and came first. They were both presented with a cash prize of Dh10k plus a training grant at the P&T Architects & Engineers Limited Company.

Alaa Mohammed Mohsen, AU student, ranked second and went home with a cash prize of Dh6,000, while eight other competitors from Ajman University were honored for their outstanding participation.

The challenge, held recently to mark P&T’s 150th anniversary, was a big challenge for architectural students to come up with creative and inventive designs that fit for their present and make their mark on history.

The race, also organized to celebrate P&T’s 15th centennial the UAE, gives students an opportunity to debate on how to improve inter-building urban spaces and how to live in high towers.

The arbitration committee included Dr. Nahla Al Qassimi, Board Member of the UAE Engineers Association, Eng. Ahmed Ali Al Mahmoud, Senior Manager at Dubai Airport Free Zone, Eng. Sumaya Dabbagh, Head of the Royal Institute of British Architects – Arabian Gulf Branch, along with four B&T Governors.
