AU Pharmacy Students Reap DUPHAT 2019 First Places

A new achievement is being added to the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Ajman University with six awards and advanced places at the Dubai International Pharmaceutical and Technology Exhibition (DUPHAT) at its 24th Annual Session, held at the Dubai International Convention Center that witnessed the participation of researchers, academics, scientists and students from pharmacy and health care sectors from all around the world. The event is the first of its kind in the Gulf, Middle East and North Africa region.

This year, the College of Pharmacy at Ajman University has participated in a distinguished pavilion presenting the remarkable progress made by the University and the College in the curricula, laboratories and researches in recent years, notably the receipt of the International Certification from the USA-based Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education (ACPE). The students of the College of Pharmacy participated in research and projects carried out under the supervision of faculty members, and presented in the conference over three days, witnessing the participation of over 500 participations from a number of pharmacy colleges in the world.

On the last day of the conference, DUPHAT organizing committee also presented the conference trophy to Ajman University in recognition of the University's outstanding participation in the 24th session of the DUPHAT 2019. Then, the results of the scientific competitions were announced, which resulted in the winning a number of top places by Ajman University students and their supervisors, as follows

  1. First place and Best Pharmacy Student Innovative Poster Award went to students Batoul Baradie and Haneen Abufares and their supervisor Dr. Akram Ashames in their work titled “Fat burners: A solution or a scam?”.
  2. Second Best Pharmacy Student Quality Poster Award, went to students Mariam Jaafar Alani, Afnan Abdul-Hameed Al-Qaisi, and Haneen Ayar and their supervisors Prof. Nageeb Hassan and Sabrina Ait Gacem in their work titled “Drug Health Privacy in the Digital Era”.
  3. Fourth Best Pharmacy Student Organization Poster Award went to students Salma Haidar and Fatima Monqith and their supervisors; Sondos Qassim, Yassin Al-Hariri, and Fatima Boura in their work titled “Placenta Encapsulation: Everything You Need to Know”
  4. Sixth Best Pharmacy Student Oral Presentation Award went to students Alaa Ahmad, Huda Ahmad, Alanoud Alattari, and Ruba Alnajjar and their supervisors Dr. Akram Ashames and Sabrina Ait Gacem in their work titled “Pharmaceutical quality control evaluation of metformin hydrochloride tablets including recently recalled products from UAE market”.
  5. Ninth Best Oral Presentation (Professional category) by AU pharmacy alumni Hanady Yousef Shourrab and her supervisor Dr. Mohammad Waseemul Islam in their project titled “Emerging Technology to Combat Counterfeit Medicine in the International Criminal Trade Market”.
  6. Tenth Best Thematic Poster Award went to student Haider Aziz (Fujairah campus) and his supervisor Prof. Sumia SirElkhatim in their work titled “Dispensing antibiotics without prescriptions”.
