AU Chancellor Meets New Alumni Council

With the advent of the new academic year 2019/2020, the Alumni Council (AC) of Ajman University (AU) gears up to support the strategies of the university and students.

The 14-member council has picked Hashem Salem Hashem, General Manager, Al Owais Group, as new President, while Hessa Al Saeedi, who is an Assistant Manager of Trade Finance Operations, Ajman Bank, was elected as Vice-President.

Meanwhile, Abdallah Aldajani, Instrument Control Engineer, Sharjah TV, was elected Executive Officer of the AU Alumni Council, while Tarek Shahin, an Assistant Lecturer with the College of Pharmacy at the University of Science and Technology, Fujairah, is to take care of the Council public relations.

Updating the new council on the University latest achievements, AU Chancellor Dr. Karim Seghir said the 2020 QS World University Rankings lists Ajman University in the top 2.8% universities worldwide and among top 1.7% institutions in the Arab world.

“Each of Ajman University 24 undergraduate and 12 graduate programs, let alone diverse training programs, offer academic rigor and hands-on experience.”

Ajman University, effective this academic year 2019/2020, has launched five new programs that all received initial accreditation from the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education, UAE, he stated.

“The programs, to meet the needs of labour market, include the Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA), Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry, Master of Science in Endodontics, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.”

AU alumni have played a critical role in these quantum breakthroughs, he pointed out. “You are advised to enlighten fresh students on the exact needs of the labour market.”

The 15 branches of the Alumni Chapters founded in several Arab and foreign countries need to promote the role of Ajman University worldwide, he advised.

“You are urged to participate in international conferences and run activities in the name of Ajman University.”

This special effort will open up the door for more agreements between Ajman University and key institutions all over the world, Dr. Seghir underlined.

Ajman University pays much attention to scientific research and studies, he underscored. “The number of AU graduates enrolled in graduate studies has significantly jumped from 3% in 2016 to 13% in 2019.”
