H.E Dr. Sheikh Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman, Ruler's Court, Ajman, on Tuesday morning inaugurated the 4th International Conference on Pharmacy and Medicine.

The congress, being held in Ajman University (AU) under the theme: "Building a culture of innovation and technology in healthcare", Nov. 19 – 21, 2019, is seeing the participation of around 100 local and global companies.

The three-day conference is organized under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ajman University.

Prof. Nageeb Hassan, Dean, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, said the conference is to meant to promote creativity of healthcare providers, professionals, and academicians. “The conference is to feature 30 lectures and workshops on the latest trends of pharmacy.”

As many parts of the world are torn hit by disasters and war, pharmacists have a critical role to play, he added. “A presentation on how pharmacists must be well prepared will be given, with a pioneering study on how to recuse expired medicine.”

Gulf countries are expected to spend USD 12 billion on the pharmaceutical industry by 2020, he disclosed. “The governments of the region are trying to increase local drug manufacturing and reduce reliance on imported products by encouraging joint ventures and licensing deals with multinational pharmaceutical companies.”

Prof. Salem Abu Fanas, Dean, College of Dentistry, said the congress is to feature 25 valuable lectures and workshops. “Other than state-of-the-art knowledge and expertise, participating pharmacists and dentists are to earn credit hours.”

Extracted teeth are considered clinical waste these days, he said. “The conference is to feature a presentation on several studies that show how extracted teeth can undergo a process of cleaning, grinding, demineralization, and sterilization, and then be a very effective graft to fill alveolar bone defects in the same patient.”

Other lectures will spotlight the role of fatty acids in oral disease, and patients’ concerns over the use of dental resin composite and proposed solutions, he stated. “Attendees will also learn how to deal with anxious patients, and the challenges in the prevention and management of early childhood care.”

The conference is to assist the students in determining their course of studies and how to find the right job opportunities, he added. “It is also to help promote new business and technology ideas in the health sector.”

Dr. Abdullah Al Kindi, Director of Al Madinah Al Dawlia Exhibitions and Conference Management, said he is honored to organize the conference in collaboration with Ajman University. “The conference is expected to see up to 12,000 visitors and 100 exhibitors from around the world.”
