Global Day Festivities at AU Kicked off Amidst Cultural Performances & Traditional Cuisine

Ajman University kicked off its annual Global Day, celebrating “Unity in Diversity”. As one of the most anticipated events at AU, this year’s Global Day was inaugurated by Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department and Vice-Chairman of AU Board of Trustees. The opening was also attended by Dr. Karim Seghir, AU Chancellor, AU senior officials, Deans, faculty, staff and students.
Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid expressed his pride in the efforts exerted by the University management and members in organizing these distinguished events which reflect the UAE’s rich heritage, culture and society that embraces nationalities from all over the world, who reside on this land in harmony and enjoy security, a decent life and tolerance.

Dr. Karim Seghir explained that AU is characterized by its cultural roots, the student body represents 76 nationalities and AU doesn’t spare any effort in ensuring they excel in their academic and social spheres. We want to graduate a generation of creator and contributors for the sustainable development of UAE. He pointed out that AU relentlessly supports and encourages extra-curricular activities of students and their active participation in events and projects is the core of AU’s culturally rich and diverse community.

Each year, the event showcases the cultural heritage of the many nationalities represented at AU by turning the university campus into a festival of culture and color. This year ethnic stalls and pavilions depicting the cultural heritage of 27 countries – including the UAE, Iraq, India, Turkey, Egypt, Palestine, Algeria, among many others – were set up across the Sheikh Zayed Hall, giving visitors a taste of the truly multicultural nature of the AU campus. Thousands of visitors who attended the event on also sampled a wide variety of traditional food available in the food arena, traditional fashion on the ramp, folklore songs that resounded against the enthusiastic cheers of the audiences. Dance troupes and music bands played a variety of foot tapping numbers from Indian bhangra to the Palestinian Dhabka.

Speaking about the event and the students’ involvement in it, Dr. Nahla Al Qasimi, Dean of Student Affairs pointed out that we are celebrating the cultural diversity and the unity of our student body. Our students are extremely creative in bringing their ideas and concepts to life, their enthusiasm is evident in this spectacular event and their performances for which they have worked very hard for the past couple of months. This event is a message from the House of Zayed to the world and a reflection of this land that encompasses and embraces all nationalities and cultures.
