Sunday, Oct 14, 2018

The student-counseling unit of the Deanship of Student Affairs at Ajman University organized a number of events for the university students from various colleges and majors in October. It all started with a "Meet the Valentines" which brought together students of the Club of Excellence of the Student Guidance Unit to familiarize them with the activities of the club. Dr. Rasha Abdullah, Director of the Unit, reviewed the schedule of events to be held during the current semester and encouraged the members of the club to give meaningful lectures on their own. The meeting included organizing some competitions for female students.

The guidance unit also organized a lecture entitled "Depression ... let's talk about it" presented by Dr. Khitam Tamim, an assistant professor at the Department of Sociology and Social Work at the College of Mass Communication & Humanities, which defined depression as a severe and debilitating disease that could be a heavy burden on individuals and families. The lecture confirmed that untreated depression may worsen and deteriorate to the point of disability, and may lead to suicide. Noting that depression may lead to acute emotional, behavioral, health, judicial and economic problems affecting various areas of life. Dr. Khatem addressed ways to treat depression through medication, brain stimulation, complementary and alternative treatments, in addition to psychotherapy.

The month of October also saw the workshop of "Color Psychology" in the student housing provided by the social guide Professor Maha Tahrawi, talked about colors, and they are not just waves and vibrations of light; but a significant impact reaches the depths of the human soul. Pointing out that the positive ones that express comfort and love, joy and joy, including negative, which raises feelings of anxiety and confusion and sadness and hatred. Confirming the effect of clear colors on the mood and health. The students interacted with talking about colors and their psychological implications for each character.

The various events organized by the Student Guidance Unit have witnessed a great number of students and a great deal of interaction among them.
