Ajman University to Host President's Chess Cup

The Chess Federation held a press conference at Sheikh Zayed Center for Conferences and Exhibitions at Ajman University to announce the Chess Championship Cup of His Highness the President of UAE for men, women and young men and women that will take place in the period from January 2 to January 9.

The conference was attended by Dr. Sarhan Al Meini, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, Mr. Hussain Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the Arab and Emirati Federations, and Saud Al Jasmi, Director of Event Section at Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD). In addition, the press conference witnessed a signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Chess Federation and Ajman University.

Dr. Sarhan Al Meini, President of the Federation, thanked His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman for sponsoring the championship. He also thanked Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD). Dr. Al Meini highly appreciated “Ajman University for embracing us and we are delighted that the President's Cup returns to Ajman after a long absence through Ajman University” stressing the fact that “the championship will witness the participation of a large number of players, specially the classified players like Salem Abdulrahman.

Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, said "It is a pleasure to welcome you today to Ajman University, the pioneering scientific beacon, which began its journey 30 years ago, a university that printed its mark locally, regionally and globally”. He also added, “the strategic direction of the University is based on its strengths, and its future vision is manifested in finding a place that suits the University on the map of international institutions of higher education”. The chancellor went on to say, “In pursuing this (vision), the University has sought to build sustainable and mutually beneficial ties with public and private sector institutions.”
