The Ajman University IEEE Student Branch travelled to Manama, Bahrain, to participate in the IEEE GCC Students and Young Professionals Congress and achieved First Place in the Best Student Branch Award Competition. The competition included 9 student branches from universities around the GCC where participants presented a bouquet of activities, soft skills workshops, field and fun trips, creative events, and more, over the period of one year (May 2016 till May 2017). The IEEE GCC SYP Congress takes place every two years and is comprised of workshops, competitions and other activities. In this year's competition, AU student along with their supervisor represented the AU branch.
The university delegation consisted to 13 members, both male and female who represented their College of Engineering and AU on this prestigious platform. Rend Shehadeh, one of the participants said that “participation in the conference is a win - win situation for us, as it was a great opportunity for us to learn by witnessing different projects offered by university students at the level of the Arab Gulf states, and this makes us see ourselves as to where we stand compared to other universities” She also thanked the University management for their relentless support to the students and their innovative ideas.
Rawan Nassar, one of the students at the conference commented that the university team reaped the award due to its hard work over the years, she referred to her pride at winning the award as dedication and distinguished efforts of all the students, faculty and management.
Dr. Karim Seghir, AU Chancellor explained that he was very pleased with the branch's performance and how much it has grown since its establishment. "The AU branch has been highly active in social and technical events. The branch rapidly evolved from few students and an executive committee to a spectrum of several subcommittees and technical teams targeting for their student branch chapter affiliations. The branch has demonstrated a great success in recruiting students from both genders, in addition to benefitting from its alumni and established young professionals. The success of the branch in community engagement is evident, in its activities that reached other countries in the MENA region, Congratulations to our IEEESB and AU!"
AU IEEE has more than 110 members, 6 faculty members and numerous achievements over the course of the last 11 years since its establishment.
The students were very enthusiastic about their participation in Bahrain and winning the title doubled their joy. They expressed their gratitude to the AU management for their unrelenting support and making the environment on campus conducive to innovative ideas, they stressed that whenever they presented a feasible and creative idea to their faculty or supervisors, they have always been guided to its accomplishment both on and off campus.
