AU Faculty Member Awarded for Distinguished Medical Research
Ajman: AU is proud of Dr. Raghad Hashim, Associate Professor, Head of the growth and Development Department at the College of Dentistry who has been awarded the First prize in His Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Award for Distinguished Medical Research in the GCC. It was presented to her at the 33rd session of HH Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Award, UAE, 2017 by His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman.
Her award winning research was on “Recognition and reporting of child physical abuse: a survey of dental students in United Arab Emirates”. The aim of this study was to investigate dental students' educational experience, attitudes and knowledge with regard to child physical abuse in all dental schools in United Arab Emirates.
The finding of the current study reveal that the dental students were not sufficiently prepared to know what to look for when they suspect child abuse and how to handle such an encounter in a professional setting. To provide better care for these young domestic violence victims, dental schools’ curriculum modifications should focus on providing students with concrete educational experiences regarding child abuse cases.
Dr. Raghad Hashim is a decorated researcher who has bagged many local and international awards for her researches. They have been published and cited in numerous articles published in international peer-reviewed scientific journals.
