AUST puts together Mural of Culture

AUST campus is abuzz with a colorful initiative by the interior design department at the College of Engineering. Students from all departments have been invited to come and be part of a huge mural by submitting their 20x20cm piece of art that depicts a culture of their choice.

An enthusiastic turnout of students has been painting away for 2 days. Each piece of art denotes a certain culture. Emarati, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Islamic, Persian, Indian, Pakistani and as far as even Russian cultural influences can be seen in the paintings being submitted that will be collected to make a huge Mural called “Color the Culture”.

This initiative is an extended part of courses taught at the department. Dr. Gamal Samanoudy stressed that “Colors are the alphabet of design therefore their treatment can assist us in studying the style and history of any culture”. Art has always played a vital role in enhancing the cultural experiences along with preserving our history and heritage for generations to come.

A student present at the workshop was concentrating on the strokes of her brush while another debated about the contrast of colors used in the Persian era. Students hailing form multi-cultural backgrounds bring to the table their own style and ideas and that is what makes this an innovative ingenuity.

The ambiance at the workshop where these pieces are being created is an ideal depiction of the College of Engineering’s spirit of innovation in a culture of contemporary academic experience.
