Ajman University Professors and Undergraduates Build Sustainable Links with Masdar Institute

Dr. Ahmed Ankit, Vice President for External Relations and Cultural Affairs at Ajman University of Science and Technology welcomed a delegation from the Masdar Institute led by the Assistant Provost, Dr. Stephen Lee, on Monday 1st November 2010. The Assistant Provost was accompanied by Ms. Hessa Al Shehhi and Ms. Zainab Al Ali from Student Affairs.

This second visit by the Masdar Institute in 2010 is indicative of the strengthening partnership between staff and students at the two highly regarded institutions.

Masdar Institute is recognized globally as a world class graduate level organization, based in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, focusing on advanced energy and sustainable technologies and looking to educate tomorrow’s world leaders and critical thinkers.

Dr. Lee, the Assistant Provost, delivered a stimulating and thought-provoking address to over 90 undergraduates from AUST Colleges of Engineering, Information Technology and Water and Energy outlining the key concepts and principles of the ‘Masdar Project’, the role of the Masdar Institute within Masdar City and most importantly the opportunities available to Ajman undergraduates.

“There is no doubt that the Masdar Institute is at the forefront of developing sustainable technology, providing real opportunities for high caliber students to be ‘out of the box’ critical thinkers in helping the global world face up to and find answers to the environmental, energy, food and water problems the world and its peoples face on a daily basis” said Dr Ankit. He urged Ajman University students to embrace the opportunities afforded by Masdar and to see themselves as being part of the solution.

Ms. Zainab also invited the students to participate in the Young Future Leaders (YFEL) program which will take place in Abu Dhabi on 17-20 January 2011 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. This four day event will provide talented young professionals with the opportunity to debate, network and share ideas and knowledge about tackling the world’s most serious environmental and energy challenges.
To date over 200 undergraduates from Ajman University have engaged with the Masdar Institute. A further visit to the new Masdar Institute will take place shortly.
