Ajman University honors students winning in Al Habtoor and Sama Dubai Competitions

Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) has honored students of Interior Design Department in the College of Engineering who won the Index / Al Habtoor Award in the Al Habtoor Young Interior Designers competition that was based on a hotel room theme, and also students of Architectural Engineering Department who won the top three prizes (Rising Star Awards) in ‘The Lagoons’ competition organized by Sama Dubai. The Interior Design winners received a cash prize of AED 10,000 in addition to certificates of appreciation, while the Architectural Engineering winners received cash prizes of AED 45,000 and coveted internship opportunities with Sama Dubai for their innovative designs for the Observation Tower that will be developed at the Al Sedaifa District of ‘The Lagoons’.

AUST had gathered its winners in an honorary event and conferred cash prizes of AED 20,000 and certificates of appreciation. During the distribution of the prizes Mr. Thamer Saeed Salman, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, commented: We are very proud of you for the achievements you have made; your winnings in these competitions that included participants from outstanding universities in the UAE means clearly that you are truly distinguished and talented. It also means that the programs of interior design and architectural engineering are strong and competitive; your winnings are also a winning to the faculty members, especially the ones who supervised your projects Dr. Gamal Al Samanoudi and Dr. Mohamed Arar and Dr. Mohsin Al Fadl, and of course Prof. Fahr Hayati, the Dean. These achievements are evidence for us that we succeeded in linking theory with practice in a way to enable you to acquire expertise and come up with tangible projects and substantial designs that astonished the international experts of the jury committee. I seize this opportunity to congratulate all the members of the College of Engineering for their efforts and sense of workgroup and believe that such achievements add real value to the College nationwide.

After his address, Mr. Thamer gave the floor to the winning students. They extended gratitude to the University for the innovative environment it provides and the state-of-the-art infrastructure and information resources. One of the winners proclaimed that the honorary event has strengthened the will of each of them to continue their achievements, making them more self-confident and also encourages other students to not miss the opportunity to participate in such competitions. Attending this event were Eng. Ibrahim Al Saheb, Project Manager in Al Habtoor and Mr. Sherif Shafie, PR Manager in Sama Dubai and some faculty members of the College of Engineering.

It is worth mentioning that the winners in Al Habtoor Young Interior Designers competition received their awards in the INDEX exhibition on December 4th, 2008 at World Trade Center. The winning students were Mohamed Zaydan, Tariq Yahya, and Ahmad Hamdy, while the winners in the Sama Dubai Competition were Amani Abdulnaser Qarqash, Hany Mohammed Mohammed Zakout and Farah Al-Amin. The participants in both competitions were students from different universities including American University of Sharjah, UAE University.
