During the first day of the 2nd Saudi Media Forum, Prof. Maha Abdel Majeed, from the College of Mass Communication, spoke about elites in the era of digital media. The forum was held in Riyadh, on February 20-21, 2023. Mr. Yehia Al-Amir moderated the media session, and it featured a group of journalists and experts, including writer Mr. Samir Atallah, Dr. Ali Al-Rubai, a specialist in Middle Eastern affairs, and Mr. Norman Raul.
The session covered various topics, such as how community elites were affected by the emergence of digital media and the map of young elites in the Arab region. Prof. Maha talked about the impact of digital media technology on the concept of the elite and how young elites can influence their societies. She also discussed the factors that affect the digital media scene and its actors, such as major technology companies, as well as the factors that influence Arab content makers. Additionally, she explained how young initiatives from digital content makers, like the Arabic content enrichment initiative, can be supported. Prof. Maha also stressed the importance of identifying the characteristics of younger audiences, including their requirements, habits, and behavioral patterns in media content consumption.
The session included interventions and interactions with media professionals, academics, and media students.
