Eight students from the departments of Biomedical and Electrical Engineering visited the Technicshe Hoschschule Nurnberg Georg Simon Ohm, Nurnberg, Germany in the period between 31th March 2019 and 5th April 2019, under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Nasor and Engr. Sana Alshwaikh. The six-day trip was very successful with busy schadulae since day one. It enhanced the students’ academic knowledge and acquainted them with recent developments in healthcare technology and electrical engineering as well as German history, heritage and culture.
The arrival was at 9:30 am at Nurnburg airport where Ms. Christin Kellner from the internarial office- Technicshe Hoschschule Nurnberg Georg Simon Ohm was waiting for the group to guide us to our accommodation in Motel one and in the Holiday Inn . Monday the first of April Miss Olga Strobel from the international office picked us up and dropped us at the university to have an introduction about the university and the city of Nurnberg given by the Director of the international office Mr. Nikolaus Hackl. A presentation about success factors of German industry explaining the contribution of small and middles industrial enterprises called hidden champions to the German economy was given by Prof. Kai-Uwe Wellner, from Faculty of Business. Later on, we visited the Learning Lab. and Miss Ashley Kodluk explained the need for such a lab, and how it can improve the learning process. An international master student Mr. Loai Abouelrouse gave a presentation about his personal student experience in Germany.
On Tuesday the 2nd of April, there was a cultural tour in the old city of Nurnberg. Followed by a lecture about the business location of Nurnburg by Mr. Marco Von Dobschutz, the head of international investor relations. Wed. the 3rd we went to the city of Erlangen where Siemens Healthineers Company is located. We had a tour in the company guided by Prof. Patrick Amarteifio. Then we visited the Siemens museum. In the afternoon, we hid back to the university to visit the Medical Engineering lab. Student were shown experiments of ultrasound imaging, ventilators, anesthetic machines and endoscopy (minimally invasive surgery), conducted by Prof. Zwanger, Prof. Giesler and Prof. Kornagel. Later we met the 14th President of the university Prof. Micheal Braun. We ended the day with a lovely family dinner at a Moroccan cuisine restaurant with Mrs. Stefanie and Mrs. Kristine.
In the 4th of April we visited Fraunhofer company in Furth city. Dr. Torsten Brandmuller guided the tour. Later that day we went back to the university to visit the Polymer Optical Fiber Applications Research Center (POF-AC), we had a short lecture about the new polymer optical fiber technology, then we visited the lab. Friday the 5th of April we visited Siemens Electronics Works in Amberg City, where Mr. Herbert Herbst guided the tour for SIMATIC manufacturing factory. We concluded the day with guided city tour by Ms. Julia Brunner for the city of Regensburg.
