Abstract |
Deaf people use sign language to communicate with others, primarily through facial expressions, lip syncing and hand gestures. The goal of this project is to create a tool to improve communication and remove obstacles that might stop someone from expressing themselves. Our project focus on solving communication problems that people might face as well as educating people that are interested in sign language by accessing the educational page provided at our website. We believe that sign language is just as important as any other language and to show mute and deaf people that they are just like everyone else and that their difficulties are recognized, we developed a translation tool that also translates Arabic and English sign language in addition to other text-to-text languages. Because this method is said to be the most user-friendly for interacting with a computer, we will focus on developing a vision-based software that recognizes fingers that spell letters using a camera and translates them to text and vice versa. It can as well be used to educate individuals by raising awareness of the importance of sign language and to expand people's linguistic horizons. |
