The College of Dentistry at Ajman University, in collaboration with Harvard School of Dental Medicine, organized a specialized workshop on oral medicine and oncology. The workshop aimed to provide advanced educational and training opportunities for students and graduates while enhancing their skills and equipping them with comprehensive knowledge in the field. Nathaniel S. Treister, Associate Professor of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity Division of Oral Medicine and Dentistry at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, presented the workshop.
The workshop focused on oral medicine and oncology, highlighting their importance for dental students and graduates. It stressed their role in diagnosing and treating oral diseases, especially cancer-related ones. Early detection of oral mucosal diseases, like potential malignant disorders and oral cancer, was emphasized for better treatment outcomes. The workshop also discussed the multidisciplinary approach in oral oncology, stressing the need to integrate oncology principles with dental practices for comprehensive cancer patient care.
The workshop also emphasized dentists' educational role in teaching patients about oral hygiene, lifestyle changes, and nutrition to lower oral cancer and disease risks. It stressed that guiding patients on healthy habits is crucial for overall health and disease prevention.
The College of Dentistry is committed to organizing specialized workshops to help students prepare for their future careers in healthcare. These workshops, led by experts in the medical field, focus on practical and clinical learning to equip students with the necessary skills for professional dental practice.
