Three students from the College of Engineering and Information Technology at Ajman University developed a Chest X-Ray Screening Software for Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) under the supervision of Dr. Mujeeb Rahman and Eng. Sharaz Ali. This advanced technology aims to overcome significant challenges in diagnosing the disease, especially when its symptoms resemble those of other pulmonary conditions.
The software utilizes sophisticated machine learning algorithms to distinguish probable cases of tuberculosis from other lung diseases with similar symptoms. The software employs advanced machine learning algorithms to distinguish potential TB cases from similar pulmonary conditions, ensuring accurate and timely diagnoses. By providing precise recommendations, the program enhances the efficiency of health systems, significantly reducing reporting delays and streamlining workflows. This leads to earlier interventions and improved patient outcomes.
Designed for use in hospitals, clinics, and various healthcare settings, the program focuses specifically on TB diagnosis and expedites radiological assessments. The Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) system facilitates rapid and accurate examinations of chest X-rays, increasing the efficiency and precision of radiologists' evaluations.
Student Sidra Zuleikha stated, "The support from the College of Engineering and Information Technology at Ajman University was crucial to our project's success. The project has garnered significant recognition and multiple awards in biomedical engineering, including First Runner-Up at the Arab Health Exhibition, the largest healthcare event in the Middle East; Best Graduation Project in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Ajman University’s 7th Student Research Day; and Third Best Graduation Project overall at the same event. Additionally, it received the award for Best "BME Graduation" Project during Healthcare Simulation Week 2024, presented by the College of Medicine at Ajman University.
