Ajman University students from the College of Medicine and the College of Engineering & Information Technology were provided internship opportunities at leading global partner institutions as part of AU’s International Academic Exchange Program. The internships were aimed at enhancing AU students’ global exposure and international research participation. Institutions that the AU students interned at included Yale University in USA, UC Louvain Belgium, and Universiti of Malaya in Malaysia.
Participating students said the internships were great opportunities to broaden their horizons and described the program as a transformative experience.
“I'm currently in the third year of my studies at Ajman University College of Medicine. Over the summer, I visited the Universiti of Malaya for a month-long research internship. My experience there was both rich and varied, as I got the opportunity to work in clinical as well as lab settings,” said Lujain Sami Othman Albozeyah.
Yusor Amjed Mohammad Zahid Al-Nuaimy, said, “I'm a third-year medical student at Ajman University, College of Medicine. This summer, I took part in a Research Attachment program at Universiti Malaya. Getting the chance to conduct research at another institution and gaining insight into a drastically different culture and environment was truly eye-opening and transformative.”
Students Alhasan Al-Fikri and Mesk Alhammadi from the AU College of Medicine had the opportunity to participate in a short-term program at the renowned Yale University School of Medicine. They were all praise for the efforts of AU faculty and staff in organizing the highly enriching learning tour.
Alhasan Al-Fikri said, “The exchange program enriched me and helped me grow both academically and personally. Firstly, it helped me to get out of my comfort zone by travelling to a new city, adapting to a new way of living, as well as meeting a new set of people. I also consolidated my prior ideas about conducting research.”
Reflecting on her internship at Yale School of Medicine, Mesk Alhammadi, said, “The experience helped shape and change us in many ways; it helped us learn so much about the different types of research and how to efficiently conduct one. We also gained significant new insights into the U.S healthcare system, thereby gaining new perspectives about various things. It was a positive experience overall and I would do it all over again.”
