The Student Success Center (SSC), under the umbrella of the Deanship of Student Services at Ajman University (AU), organized a seminar on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education featuring such highly relevant topics as challenges and opportunities relating to the use of AI in higher education, ethics, plagiarism, and academic integrity.
Guest speakers at the seminar were Dr. Zeenath Reza Khan, President and Founding Board Member of the Center of Academic Integrity in the UAE, and a faculty member at Wollongong University in Dubai; and Dr. Salim Razi, Vice-Dean Academic of the Faculty of Education at the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University in Turkey, and a founding board member of the European Network for Academic Integrity.
They presented on the highly germane topics of “AI Text Generator Challenges and Opportunities as a Pathway to Building Culture of Integrity in Higher Education” and “Plagiarism Concerns and Academic Integrity”.
The event was attended by faculty members and students, as the topics were both interesting and timely. The use of AI is widely perceived as a huge opportunity than a threat to the future of education, but it needs to be regulated and understood appropriately. The topics generated an interactive discussion that reflected students' views as well as those of faculty members. The SSC continues to invite and involve speakers and moderators who are experts in their field to enrich its programs and initiatives.
