The Office of Sustainability and the Office of Community Engagement at Ajman University participated in the celebrations of National Environment Day in collaboration with the Emirates Environmental Group on February 4. The special edition of the "Clean Emirates" campaign was launched under the patronage of the Ministry of Community Development and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road on both sides, gathering a large number of participants and volunteers of various ages and nationalities.
The event was graced by H.E Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, and Mariam Bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, along with representatives from various government entities across the country. Over 6,000 participants actively engaged in the campaign and contributed approximately 24,000 volunteering hours. They successfully cleaned an area of 25 square kilometers at seven strategic locations along the main road connecting the seven emirates.
Ajman University's participation in this significant event aims to support its 2022-2030 Climate and Sustainability Strategy. Moreover, it aligns with important upcoming events for the UAE, such as hosting the upcoming COP28 conference this year, highlighting the country's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and reinforcing the vision and direction of its wise leadership. This involvement presents a valuable opportunity to enhance cooperation and collaboration with relevant entities, government and non-governmental institutions, in achieving the UAE's vision for a sustainable and prosperous future.
It is worth mentioning that Ajman University's Office of Sustainability is actively dedicated to achieving environmental excellence and taking an active role in national efforts to preserve the environment and promote sustainability. The Office motivates students, faculty, and staff members to develop innovative initiatives and solutions that safeguard the local and global community from contemporary environmental challenges.
