Interior Design Student Of Ajman University Received An Award In The Italian Pavilion of EXPO2020
The works of Ajman University are gradually yielding the desired results as one of the interior design students of the school received an award in the Italian Pavilion of EXPO2020. The project is a collaborative effort with the Polytechnic Di Milano University, where the students used interior Islamic art to design the cover of a book. The Dean of the College of Design of Polytechnic Di Milano presented the awards at an event held in the Italian pavilion at EXPO 2020.

We thank the Polytechnic Di Milano University for welcoming us and congratulate our student for bringing glory to the name of the university.” – said Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor, Ajman University.
The workshop PdiPigna saw the participation of a group of students from the Interior Design Department at Ajman University (the two sections of the course BID502 Islamic Interiors, under Dr. Irene Pasina supervision) and a group of students from the School of Design at Politecnico di Milano (#5 QS Ranking in Art and Design). Among all the projects submitted, 5 projects were selected, made by the students Ahmed Abdellatif, Aya Babbili, Hamza Faris, Shams Ahmad, Mustafa El Falaki, a student of Ajman University, who came out tops.
Pigna, a famous and historical Italian stationary brand - proposed to the students to create a new design pattern for their PdiPigna A5 notebook collection. In this collection, they just released a series of notebooks curated by the designer Matteo Ragni and inspired by the work of Gio Ponti, an Italian designer, and architect who designed a very famous collection of patterns of ceramic tiles in the Sixties.
The Italian students reflected on the tradition of Italian design and the characteristics of the Italian regions and landscapes. However, the students from Ajman University, who participated collectively in the workshop under the name of the Interior Design Department – CAAD, proposed a reflection on the traditional Islamic patterns.
The project was an opportunity for Ajman University students to participate in an international workshop and bring their creativity to bear competing with their counterparts from one of the best Design schools in the world. Each student submitted three boards explaining their design process and displaying the final pattern conceived and its application.
The selected students received a Certificate of Participation in the PdiPigna workshop, and their works will be advertised on the Pigna Instagram page and through other forms of advertisement. The projects and the outcomes will also be advertised on the Politecnico di Milano - School of design webpage.
