With a view to strengthen academic and research ties with overseas universities, Ajman University Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Khaled Assaleh and Dean of Research & Graduate Studies, Prof. Kamran Arshad recently visited three top QS-ranked universities in Pakistan.
The purpose of the visit was to explore the possibility of long-term academic and research ties with these universities, in order to eventually co-opt them as partner institutes.
All three universities they visited - the National University of Sciences & Technology, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) and COMSATS University – are based in the capital city of Islamabad and are ranked among the leading universities in Pakistan.
The senior management of AU and the respective universities discussed possible collaboration opportunities in areas such as collaborative research and publications, joint research projects (internal/external and match funding), student and faculty exchange, and joint organization of conferences, workshops and trainings.
National University of Sciences & Technology
Prof. Khaled and Prof. Kamran visited NUST on Thursday, June 30 2022 where they were welcomed by the NUST Rector, Engr Mr. Javed Mahmood Bukhari. This was followed by a meeting with other members of the senior administration of NUST, including Pro-rector of Academics, Pro-rector of Research, Innovation and Commercialization, Principal of Engineering, IT and Computer Science etc. During the meeting, presentations and mutual discussions were held on potential collaboration across a number of academic and research areas by representatives of both universities.
The visit included a tour to research labs, the Science & Technology (S&T) Park, and several fintech companies hosted at the S&T Park within the NUST premises. NUST is ranked No.334 globally and No.1 in Pakistan, as per QS World University Rankings 2023.
Quaid-i-Azam University
On July 1 2022, the AU Professors visited Quaid-i-Azam University and were welcomed by Prof. Tasawar Hayat at the Vice Chancellor’s office.
A meeting was organized with the senior administration of the university including Deans (Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Faculty of Biological Sciences), University Registrar, and heads of research centers and groups. Mutual cooperation and collaboration possibilities were explored across a number of academic and research areas during the meeting.
As part of their visit, the AU delegation also visited Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS). As a mark of recognition on behalf of PAS, Prof. Khaled and Prof. Kamran were presented shields by Prof. Tasawar Hayat who is currently serving as the General Secretary of PAS.
Quaid-i-Azam University is ranked No.363 globally and No.2 in Pakistan, as per QSWUR 2023.
COMSATS University
On the afternoon of July 1 2022, Prof. Khaled and Prof. Kamran visited COMSATS University in Islamabad. Their action-packed schedule included a welcome at the COMSATS’ Office of International Academic Affairs, meet and greet at the Rector’s Office, tours to Electrical Engineering Department, laboratories and the Junaid Zaidi Library. Following this, a meeting was organized with the senior leadership of the University, where both sides made presentations and held discussions on joint research projects and possibilities in student mobility.
