On the occasion of World Cleanup Day and World Environmental Health Day, the Office of Environmental Health and Safety in cooperation with the Office of Community Engagement at Ajman University (AU), brought together more than 80 students, staff and faculty members to volunteer in the University’s campus-wide clean-up of litter on campus.
This initiative comes in line with UAE's Green Agenda and United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the theme “Strengthening Environmental Health Systems for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
Environmental Health at AU plays a crucial role in implementing these SDGs and promoting environmental sustainability. It is also committed to increasing sustainable practices on campus and strengthening the student’s leadership in raising awareness and tackling issues of sustainability. These activities are a key component of AU’s Climate & Sustainability Strategy 2022-2030.
The activity aims to promote the long-term goal of a zero-waste campus, spread awareness on the importance of environmental health, and offer an easy way to volunteer and engage in community activities.
Volunteers were provided with collection bags, gloves, drinking water. They were eager and proud to participate in this initiative, and demonstrated both the spirit and the commitment to making the campus greener and cleaner. Participation certificates were awarded to volunteers in addition to a special “Thank You” token from the World Cleanup Day Organization.
