The Office of Student Life, in collaboration with the Department of Social Services in Sharjah and the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Ajman University, organized a student initiative to celebrate the World Social Work Day (WSWD) 2022. Social workers around the world observe this day to send a message about the importance of social work.
The initiative was supervised by Dr. Amel Beichi, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Ajman University.
The event, which was held at the headquarters of the Department of Social Services in Hamriyah - Sharjah, featured a speech by Dr. Salah Gad Head of Department of Sociology and Social Work. Dr. Salah spoke about the history of the International Day of Social Work and the most important activities in this field.
Later, AU students gave an introductory presentation on the International Day of Social Work in terms of its importance, goals and key initiatives globally and in the United Arab Emirates. AU students, graduates and faculty members of AU Department of Sociology, and social workers of Sharjah Department of Social Services participated in a discussion on this occasion. The purpose of this discussion was to find links between the academic and professional fields of social work and to explore the challenges and opportunities in this field.
During the event, the Department of Sociology and Social Work and the Office of Student Life gave out certificates of appreciation to participants from the Sharjah Department of Social Services.
