Ajman University (AU), in association with Thumbay University Hospital and Z’NEEM Healthcare group, organized the “Walk Away from Diabetes” campaign with the aim of spreading awareness about diabetes, which is considered one of the most common diseases in the world. AU’s participation in the campaign was coordinated by our Office of Medical Services, Office of Environmental Health and Safety, and the Health and Wellness club.
Dr. Mahir Jallo, Clinical Professor and Consultant for Internal Medicine at Thumbay University Hospital delivered a lecture about the history of diabetes, discovery of insulin, ways to detect and prevent diabetes and tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Attendees were given promotional gifts and vouchers presented by Thumbay University Hospital.
Dr. Mahir Jallo said: “The objective of this lecture is to educate students about diabetes, its risk factors, methods of prevention and treatment of the disease. I encourage student ambassadors to educate and promote the disease within their families, university and society and be the reason in spreading awareness.”
During the event, Z’NEEM Healthcare group conducted screening consultations and blood sugar tests for 125 students, faculty and staff at AU. This was followed by activities organized by the Health and Wellness club which focused on improving lifestyle and healthy habits to prevent diabetes and reduce its symptoms.
