We are pleased to announce that Ajman University alumna Khawla Mohammad Balooshi’20 has been selected by Tashkeel Center, UAE for the eighth edition of Tanween, a leading design and art contest in the UAE. The designers, including Khawla, were handpicked from 58 applications to undertake a year-long, fully-funded professional training program in product design, led by local and international mentors.
Participants will embark on a journey of research and experimentation to define a product concept inspired by the UAE, which will then be developed into a prototype. Successful prototypes will be manufactured in the Emirates and launched at Dubai Design Week 2021.
In keeping with the design and science theme of the program this year, the cohort will collaborate with UAE-based engineers and scientists to enhance their research capability, knowledge and understanding of sustainable and problem-solving design.
Established in Dubai in 2008 by Lateefa bint Maktoum, Tashkeel seeks to provide a nurturing environment for the growth of contemporary art and design practice rooted in the UAE. Tanween was conceptualized by Tashkeel as a nine-month development program to take a product inspired by the surroundings of the UAE from concept to completion.
Khawla holds a Bachelor of Interior Design from Ajman University, College of Architecture, Design and Arts. Having embarked on freelance design as a student, Khawla has worked on various residential projects including the Ajman Girls Centre.
AU is proud of her accomplishment and wishes her all the best in her future endeavors.
